Timberlab's Success within the Portland International Airport

The Portland International Airport’s new terminal roof represents a monumental achievement for the mass timber industry. Timberlab worked with ZGF Architects and Sustainable Northwest to ensure that the thousands of uniquely cut pieces of timber could be traced back to the forest of origin. Since opening in August, the project has welcomed thousands of visitors to the region and brilliantly showcases the rich history and current context of the Pacific Northwest timber industry.

Timberlab's fabrication expertise was critical to the success of the Portland International Airport's mass timber roof structure, one of the largest installations of its kind in the United States. This project was one of the first to go through their Portland, Oregon facility, which was strategically located near the project site. That immediate proximity ensured meticulous quality control and streamlined logistics, enabling efficient delivery and installation. Leveraging CNC technology, Timberlab achieved the tight tolerances necessary for this intricate roof design, demonstrating the scalability and precision of mass timber for large-scale infrastructure projects.
