[Wayne, PA - August 26, 2021] - In 1973, the U.S. Congress officially designated August 26th as “Women’s Equality Day” to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment of the Constitution, granting the women the right to vote. Since then, women around the country (and the world) have broken even more barriers in their respective fields.
For LMC and the LBM industry, Kyra Bishop, Chief Financial Officer of Berry Home Centers headquartered in Chilowie, VA, broke a glass ceiling in July of 2017 as the Board of Directors named her Chairperson, the first woman to hold this position for LMC in its eight decades of existence.
Bishop, a Certified Public Accountant, stepped into the role as an experienced Board member. She served as the Chairperson of LMC’s Audit Committee, and the LMC Finance Committee, and still sits on the Board of Directors as past Chairperson. Bishop also holds certification as a Chartered Global Management Accountant, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Berry Home Centers joined LMC in 1998, and Kyra says it has been instrumental to their success.
“LMC Dealers have a lot of strengths and challenges but we’re all in this together – so it’s about making it all work together.” Bishop said. “Whether you’re large or small, LMC’s knowledgeable employees give your business so much. It’s hard to find experts in every category but being a member of LMC, you have experts in every category to lean on – everyday. And buying through LMC makes us all stronger.”
Bishop’s daughter, Leslie Brewer, along with her husband Chris, became the fourth generation of the Berry family to join Berry Home Centers, which serve Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee, and includes more than 50 employees with over 750 years of combined experience.
