Lewis, a third-generation member of the Tart family, has spent the past decade working in nearly every role at Tart Lumber. Most recently serving as Vice President, she has overseen operations, sales, point of sales transition, showroom management, and vendor relationships. She graduated from Clemson University in 2015 with a degree in Business Information Technology and a minor in legal studies.

Virginia has been instrumental in advancing Tart Lumber’s technology and customer service initiatives, spearheading the company’s implantation of Bistrack in 2020, most recently a move to e-commerce in 2024.  She is also the creative force behind Tart Lumber’s marketing including the annual Decking Catalogue, which has grown into a 24-page resource highlighting premier decking options for clients.

In addition to her operational expertise, Virginia is deeply involved in team development and company culture. Virginia’s ‘why’ for working in the family business is rooted in three key principles: providing the best life for Tart’s employees, delivering the best products to Tart’s customers, and preserving a legacy—recognizing that every action today shapes the future of our employees, customers, and community.

In 2024 Virginia was honored to be recognized as a Rising Star in the Top Women in Hardware and Building Supply by HBSD. Virginia also represents Tart Lumber on a national stage. She has served as a Next Generation Leader on a panel at the ProDealer Industry Summit, advocating for small business growth on Capitol Hill with the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA). She also contributes as a leader in the LMC 21st Leaders Group, participates in the BMSA Operations Roundtable, and serves on the Education Committee for the Professional Remodeling Organization (PRO) of the Metro Area.

“Virginia’s leadership, vision, and dedication embody the values that have defined Tart Lumber for three generations,” said CEO, Elizabeth Fritsche. “She has consistently demonstrated her ability to strengthen operations, foster innovation, and build lasting relationships across the industry. We are proud to welcome her as President and are confident she will guide Tart Lumber to continued success.”

As Tart Lumber moves into the next chapter, Virginia is focused on reinforcing the culture that prioritizes employee well-being, delivers meaningful value to customers, and creates a lasting legacy.

Virginia’s promotion marks a new chapter for Tart Lumber as it continues its legacy of serving Northern Virginia’s contractors, builders, and homeowners with the highest-quality products and services.
