Robert K. McNamara, President of Massachusetts-based Arlington Coal & Lumber Co., announced today that an agreement has been reached to purchase the assets and real estate of Friend Lumber Company.
Established in 1923, Arlington Coal & Lumber Co., a fourth-generation lumber and building materials dealer owned by the McNamara family, has five locations in Massachusetts. Friend Lumber Company, a third-generation lumber and building materials dealer established in 1945, has two locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Mark Jaffe, the current owner and President of Friend Lumber Company, will retire after the sale is completed, having worked at his family lumber business for more than 47 years.

Arlington Coal & Lumber Co. services professional home builders, remodeling contractors, and retail clients in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
The sale transaction is anticipated to close in late August or early September 2021.
