The donations included more than $2,300 in tools for Chassell Township School, as well as nearly $4,750 in equipment for Washington Middle School and Calumet High School. The contributions will help enhance shop programs and other hands-on learning environments where students can build practical skills.
The initiative stemmed from a broader evaluation of product assortments and merchandising across multiple 41 Lumber locations during the remodel of 41 Lumber’s Quinnesec location. As the company reviewed inventory and display programs, it identified an opportunity to donate tools and equipment for good use in the community.
That conversation led to the idea of donating the equipment to local schools, where students could use it in real-world applications. “We believe in giving back to the communities we serve and investing in the next generation. By providing these tools to schools, we’re helping students develop practical skills and discover careers in the skilled trades. It’s rewarding to support programs that prepare young people for success while strengthening the future of our industry,” said Tania Swanson, Marketing Manager at 41 Lumber, a recent recipient of LBM Journal’s 40 Under 40.
At Chassell Township School, the donation supports shop and art classes led by Diane Esterline, whose work focuses on giving students meaningful, real-world problem-solving experiences. The 41 Lumber team also visited Washington Middle School and Calumet High School, where educators William Darnell and Michael Goldsworthy are providing students with experiences that encourage creativity and technical skill development. During the visit, students showcased projects through the school’s makerspace programs, including a custom-made sign featuring the 41 Lumber logo, which was presented to the 41 Lumber team. The project highlighted the impact of giving students access to tools and resources that allow them to explore and create. Efforts like this play an important role in exposing students to career opportunities in the lumber and building materials industry, while introducing the next generation to the value of skilled trades. 41 Lumber is a strong example of bridging that gap by giving back locally, reflecting the shared commitment among LMC Dealers to maintain a strong presence in their communities. Access to hands-on learning can spark interest, build confidence, and develop practical skills.
41 Lumber has been an LMC Dealer since 2004.
