In 2011 the industry trade publication LBM Journal featured two LMC dealers on their cover.
LBM's Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 was Home lumber of Whitewater, Wis. A family run business 125 years old and part of LMC since 1988. Geoff Hale, company president, was quoted as saying: "Our lumberyard has to adapt and change and think outside the box to survive. Our goal is to be the Nordstorm's of lumber." They have succeeded in making their business thrive with outstanding service while staying open to new ideas and then executing them well. From creating the first ever grocery cart for power tools on the internet to their deck lighting concept of illuminating the tops of square post, the ability to generate and nourish new ideas keeps Home Lumber going. Their ability to identify and take advantage of opportunities earned them LBM's Entrepreneur of the Year.

"Garden State Growth" is the story about how a lumber dealer stays strong through one of the worst down turns in our industry. Doug Kuiken is company president, and a very involved LMC Dealer. Doug has served on various LMC Committees and was board chairman at LMC during the early 2000s. In this article he cites Kuiken Brothers' conservative nature to be at the core of their market position. In June 2011, they opened a ninth location in Succasunna, NJ giving them an even bigger cut of the regional commercial and residential ticket. Kuiken Brothers is quick to note that while having the right products in place is a must, the right personnel is a necessity. In this October 2011 issue, Doug Kuiken is quoted as saying: "Nothing good happens without good people."
